If you think that big Corporate Companies always only have eyes fixed upon the bottom line, you need to think again.
Let me give you one example that stands out and shows that it is absolutely possible to both be a registered Company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and at the same time act as a Force for Good in the World.
The Company I am talking about is a Utah based Direct Selling Company by the name of Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. Here is what the Company says about itself:
“Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. is a global direct selling company with operations in 50 markets worldwide. The Company develops and distributes anti-aging personal care products and nutritional supplements under its Nu Skin and Pharmanex brands, respectively. As of December 31, 2009, it had a global network of over 761,000 active distributors. During the year ended December 31, 2009, approximately 84% of its revenue came from its markets outside of the United States. The Company markets its personal care products under the Nu Skin brand and its science-based nutritional supplements under the Pharmanex brand.”
The Company sees itself as “being in business to change lives”, and these are no empty words.
Besides giving thousands and thousands of people in 50 countries all over the World the privilege to market its products all over, the distributors are also given the chance to donate special meals for the hungry and starving children of the World in a program called “Nourish the Children”.
The program was recognized with an American Business Award (“Stevie“) for the best Corporate Sociall Responsibility program in the United States in 2007.
Nu Skin China also received the Corporate Social Responsibility Innovation Award sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for Nourish the Children in 2007.
Lee Iacocca, former chairman of Chrysler Corporation and former President of Ford Motor Company, is now chairman-emeritus of the Nourish the Children Advisory Board.
What Is Nourish the Children?
The program was invented by the chairman and founder of Nu Skin Enterprises, Blake Roney and his cofounders and leadership staff in order to simply eradicate malnutrition and starvation among children in the poor parts of the World.
Recognizing the fact that every six seconds a childdies from malnutrition and that more than 800 million people, mostly children, suffer from hunger, the company´s scientific staff was asked by the leadership to come up with a product that could be donated by people in and outside Nu Skin, and that contained a balanced and highly nutritiousdiet for children. The scientist came up with VitaMeal, a small bag containing food, vitamins and minerals for on hot meal a day for 30 days.
The price, includingproduction costs and profit, is very low and affordable for almost any person in the Western World. By donating a product, rather than cash, donors know exactly how their contribution Is being used.
As the company points out on www.nourishthechildren.comevery VitaMeal donation will reach children through a select group of reputable relief agencies that frequently report on the progress and health of children nourished by donations.
On that same site you can watch the live counter, which for every second adds one more meal donation to the previous. You will see that up until June 10 altogether 182,713,791 meals had been donated.
The goal for 2010 was 200 million meals. 2011 will probably see 250 million.
It is easy for everyone to take part in this huge program that feeds far beyond 100.000 children every single day, children who would otherwise suffer from malnutrition and starvation.
If you wish to explore how just go to www.danglobe.nsedreams.com– choose your country (and language) and click on shop. Scroll down the page and choose either one, two or three bags and check out.
While you are on the page you are also offered a chance to sign up and become a distributor with the right to buy all other products like Personal Care products as well as Vitamins and other Supplement solutions at a 30-50% discount.
Together we have the possibility to be a Force for Good as the Company wishes to be. If we all give our contribution the result will be amazing.
Some might say that it does not make a difference if I donate or not. That is wrong. Every donation that is continued month after month is saving the life of a particular child out there.
And if you decide to donate, you will receive a monthly report on where your donation has been sent by either Feed the Children or one of the other relief organizations.
